New Warriors #1, Vol. 1 - July 1990
Writer: Fabian Nicieza
After sacrificing his powers at the end of the Skrull-Xandar War, Rich Rider has dropped out of high school and works various menial jobs. On his way home
from work, the hero known as Night Thrasher grabs Rich and drops him off of a building. The event awakens the Nova powers which were recently returned to
him by Adora.
It is later revealed that after Rich Rider returned from Xandar, he
went to the Fantastic Four to see if they could revive his Nova powers. Reed Richards found that Rich's access to the Nova Force
has been buried so deeply that there was only a 35% chance of his powers returning. The information on Rich was routinely shared with the law-enforcement agency, SHIELD.
Night Thrasher later illegally accessed SHIELD's computers and gained the information on Nova.
As Nova, Rich became a founding member of the New Warriors. In their first adventure, the New Warriors battle
the former Galactus herald, Terrax. Side note: Terrax was originally created by Galactus in order to fight Nova's enemy, the Sphinx!

Writer: Fabian Nicieza
The 'Forever Yesterday' saga takes place in an alternate reality created by the Lady Sphinx. Having been with the original
Sphinx when he obtained the Ka Stone, the Lady Sphinx absorbed enough of the stone's power to become immortal through
reincarnation. However, she had fallen in love with the Sphinx and wanted them to be together. After gaining the Ka Stone, the Lady Sphinx altered reality
to match her wishes. Reality was restored after the Sphinx's aide, Sayge, revealed the truth to
Nova. Nova forced the Lady Sphinx to restore reality by threatening to kill her cat, the only reminder she had of the Sphinx. Side note: New Warriors
#12 is the first time Nova is shown using a full gravimetric pulse.

New Warriors #40-#42, Vol. 1; Oct.-Dec. 1993
Writer: Fabian Nicieza
Perhaps one of the greatest Nova stories, 'The Starlost' features the confrontation between Supernova and Nova. Returning to Earth
in his dimension-spanning search of Nebula, Supernova (insane from his power) senses the Nova Force in Rich Rider and
begins an all-out war to steal it. In order to save lives, Rich sacrifices his powers and his life to Supernova. However, he is brought back by the former heralds of
Galactus, Airwalker and Firelord. The heralds are also former
Xandarians and agree to help stop Supernova. Supernova captures Rich and takes him to the ruins of Xandar as part of a plan to
restore the destroyed domed cities. On Xandar, the Living Computers begin the revival process. Queen Adora
is cloned and awaits the arrival of the Nova Force contained in Supernova and in the spirit of Rich Rider. During Nebula's attack, Adora and the
Protector made contingency plans if Xandar was destroyed. Garthan Saal was given the physical power of the Nova Force while Rich Rider
(unknown to him) contained its spirit. When the entire Nova Force was brought together in the same dimension, the Living Computers would reactivate and Adora cloned.
As Supernova and Rich arrive at Xandar, the two beings merge into a powerful energy form which is the full essence of the Nova Force. However, it is Rich Rider's spirit who
now controls the energy form! Rich releases the energy into the Living Computers and the Xandar is alive once more just as Adora and the Protector planned! In gratitude, Adora restores the Nova powers to Rich and
even enhances them as he resumes his position of Centurion Nova-Prime!
