Title: Chapter XXIII: Wouldn't Mama Be Proud

At Avengers Mansion in New York City, Steve Rogers tells Spider-Man and Nova that the rest of Earth's heroes are doing nothing to help him due to the Axis event. Many of the villains have become heroes and many heroes including the Hulk have become evil.

As they watch Kluh rampage through a city in Arizona on a monitor, Sam tells Spider-Man and Steve that Carefree is in the path of destruction. His fellow heroes try to talk him out of rushing off without a plan but the teenager flies off towards his hometown.

Later, Eva and Kaelynn Alexander are trying to leave town but find the traffic has come to a standstill. Looking in her rearview mirror, Mrs. Alexander sees Sam fly in and lift the car out of traffic. She is stunned to find that when they land, they are now in Alaska! Eva wonders if Alaska might be a bit overkill for the situation since the Avengers will stop Kluh. Her son sadly tells her that there are no more Avengers. Sam flies off back to Arizona.

Back in Carefree, the altered Hulk grabs an ambulance and begins tearing it apart before throwing it through the air. The driver tells his fellow EMT that he loves her which causes a stunned reaction from Jeanine.

Suddenly, the ambulance is caught in mid-air by Nova! He puts the vehicle safely on the ground and watches as Vern tries to explain to Jeanine that he only said he loved her because he didn't want her to die loveless.

Sam flies straight at Kluh and hits him with a handful of high velocity sand. The evil Hulk makes multiple attempts to catch Nova but finds him to be too fast. The gamma-ray monster turns his attention towards an innocent bystander and tells the teenager he is going to throw him.

Sam reacts by punching the villain hard which gives the bystander time to run. Kluh grabs Nova and bites his arm!

Before he goes into shock, Sam is able to remember advice given to him by his father. When confronted by a bully and you have no other options, hit him in the nose. Nova shoves his hand up Kluh's nose and releases a full Nova blast into his head!

As the evil Hulk falls to the ground, Sam refuses to fly away. He wants Captain America and Spider-Man to be proud of him. Kluh tells him that if he won't fly away on his own, he will do it for him! The monster hits Nova with a stunningly powerful punch which sends Sam flying miles away and eventually landing in Paris!

Later, Sam begins to regain consciousness in a Paris hospital. The doctor informs him that he has suffered a serious head injury. The nurse tells Sam he was fortunate to be wearing a helmet.

The young hero turns to find the Nova helmet heavily damaged and dented!
