Richard Rider is confused to find the WorldMind inside the Cancerverse. The WorldMind explains that after Rich left it in the Cancerverse, it adapted and now controls the twisted universe itself! Rich angrily denies that he left the WorldMind behind. The artificial intelligence system asks Nova exactly how did he survive the Cancerverse.

Rich Rider Nova recalls his earlier time trapped in the Cancerverse. As the battle raged against Thanos and the Revengers, Nova decided to take drastic action to end it. Rich recalls combining the Nova Force with the power of the Cosmic Cube to open a doorway to the normal universe.

The WorldMind continues its recollection of the same events. The artificial sentience tells Nova that it knows the Earthman loved being a hero and willing to sacrifice himself for others. However, it also knows that a hero's actions has consequences. In Rich's case, life trapped inside the Cancerverse meant an endless one because nothing can die.

And because he had opened the door to save Peter Quill and Drax, the WorldMind had been able to cross over into the Cancerverse to join Rich. Now they were both imprisoned with no means of escape due to the depletion of the Cosmic Cube.

The WorldMind confesses his admiration for Rich Rider and his ability to survive in the Cancerverse for years. As an example, the WorldMind recalls their encounter with the Revengers. When they returned to attack Nova, Rich Rider gave them a furious battle.

However, the hero from Earth soon realizes that dying as a warrior would be better than living in the Cancerverse. No matter how many times or how many ways they die, Nova and the Revengers return to life and continue their war with each other.

After years of living a tortured existence in the Cancerverse, Rich Rider finally figures out a way to leave the Cancerverse. The desperate hero transfers all of the Nova Force and the WorldMind into the drained Cosmic Cube. The renewed cube opens the doorway back to Nova's universe and ignoring the WorldMind's pleas, Rich escapes back home.

However, the WorldMind reveals that one doesn't leave the Cancerverse without bringing something back.

The artificial sentience also tells Rich Rider how he adapted to being alone in the Cancerverse. Using the cube's power and it's own abilities, the WorldMind took control over the Cancerverse and those who inhabit it.

Back in the present, the WorldMind finishes his recollections. Rich tells him he is sorry about what happened. The ruler of the Cancerverse accuses him of simply not caring. It also confirms that Rich Rider is still the door between universes. The WorldMind reveals its intention to use that access to conquer the hero's universe! The seed planted in Nova before he escaped begins growing from Rich's body until an energy blast shatters it!

The blast had come from Sam Alexander! Sam tells Rich that he's there to bring him home. However, an energy blast from Rich knocks Sam Alexander Nova backwards.

Richard Rider has been completely taken over by the WorldMind and the Cancerverse creature from inside him!
