An Interview With Nova's Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning!
A Nova Prime Page Exclusive

The writers of the current Nova series, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, had taken Nova and the rest of the cosmic line at Marvel on a wild and crazy ride over the last few years! And following their latest series, War of Kings, the British dynamic duo known as DnA will be taking them on their next fantastic journey in Realm of Kings!

Dan and Andy were very generous and took the time to answer some questions about the upcoming series and Nova's place in it. I'd like to thank them for their time and answers!

What is Realm of Kings about and how will Nova be involved?

Realm of Kings is the name we're giving to the story lines coming out of War of Kings: the political and physical map of the universe has been changed by the war, and the aftermath will be huge!

ROK stories will run through Nova, Guardians of the Galaxy, two 'set up' one-shots (Who Will Rule? and Realm Of Kings) and also into two new mini series that will feature the Inhumans and the Imperial Guard respectively.

From Nova's POV, the Realm of Kings offers new challenges, bold new frontiers to patrol and keep the peace along...and all sorts of guest stars and visitors! Some old, some new, some famous, some deliciously obscure!"

Can you give us some details on what was created when the rift in time/space happened at the end of War of Kings?

DnA: The T-Bomb tore both space and time wide open, creating a huge spatial rift called The Fault. Within this region there is potentially access to many other worlds. However, the Fault is a gigantic version of the anomalies that the Guardians have been battling since they formed, so there is a very real danger that it may consume and collapse the entire universe.

What kind of role will Nova and the Nova Corps have in Realm? Will the Corps be in any condition to handle a new cosmic threat?

DnA: We can't tell you exactly what shape the Corps will be in, but this new frontier is very dangerous and lawless, and will definitely need policing by capable and powerful enforcers. We can't think of anyone better than the Nova Corps for that job.

Will Richard Rider be directly interacting with many of the other cosmic characters during Realm or will he be more on the perimeter as he was in War of Kings?

DnA: Richard will be interacting directly with many of the key players in the Realm of Kings stories, and he will often be the first person to encounter some of the new and surprising visitors to our cosmic neighbourhood. However, we wouldn't agree that Richard was on the perimeter for War of Kings at all. WoK was a huge cosmic event which effected many different lives in many different ways. It formed the backdrop to a number of different story arcs, and we tried as much as we could to present variety and contrast between those different threads.

The Guardians were very tied up in the high level arguments, and Nova was right in the thick of it in the frontline of the war, a theme we followed from the Ego story onwards. Our objective was to present a very different story in the Nova book to the ones playing out in Guardians and the WoK core title. Richard's war story was very personal to him and the Nova Corps. His was the 'band of brothers' thread, to contrast with the clash of commanders which played out in WoK and GOG.

You mentioned Nova would meet up with other people throughout the arc. Can you give any hints in terms of who's "old", "new", "famous" and "obscure"? And do any of their names possibly rhyme with 'The Jinx'? :)

DnA: We can categorically deny the rumour that Leon Spinks will be appearing in Nova. Beyond that anything is possible and given that many of these appearances are going to be surprises, we should say no more. Except this, Nova's space cop and who is the most wanted man in the universe right now?
